BLACK SAND
Black Sand is an allegorical fiction novel telling the tale of a bird named Oro; a creature with an eccentric urge to deviate from others of her kind.This book is not only written about my life, but also the experiences of other people’s lives. It is a story about curiosity, empathy, love, and loss. It is open for any individual to connect to the writing and relate to the feelings shown in the pages. The rest of the website will be dedicated to;
Oro
Oro is described as a young, female bird; bearing midnight feathers and whole, bright eyes. Her legs are nimble and thin, her tail feathers akin to a cape draped over her body.
Oro represents innocence one can have; the embodiment of untouched purity. Throughout the story, she becomes gradually tainted by the outside world. Her personality is curious and empathetic; feeling like she must help others even when they hurt her.(insert image of feather)
Null
A large, dark bird who exists in the desolate lands beyond the beach. Null is the husk of a former living being. No longer does this bird have a will to move forward, but it takes out anger on anyone who gets close to it.
Null represents the nature of toxicity, leeching off of the weak and vulnerable to survive. Null means zero, something cast out and put to shame. Maybe for a good reason.
Meaningless
Meaningless appears to be similar to Oro in appearances, yet starved and bearing dull eyes. It was still different from her, being much
Meaning in the story text.
The Beast
Long, flowing mane that twists around itself; painted with strands of multiple colors. The beast holds a hefty body at the front, slimmer around the back. A mask upon the face, four spaces arranged like an X as though meant to be a maw. Four strong legs that bear toes arranged like a hand, with multicolored claws.
The beast is representative of a protective figure, existing to feel for Oro despite speaking no words. Yet swords draw blood in the future, that the beast will succumb to and Oro must lose.
CHARACTERIZATION
Black Sand is a story with a lot of metaphors, allegories and references. It may be difficult to understand these, so this page is intended to clarify the intended meaning behind certain events.
The Beach
The beach is a setting in the very beginning of the story, being where Oro observes the crashing waves of the white ocean and white birds beating their wings by the waters. Her curiosity drives her to approach, being turned away out of fear of the movement.
THE BEACHThe beach is simply the home of the white birds, a visual representation of the collective society.
The sand is tinted black, an unusual but striking color for a shore. The black sand is not only the name of the book, but a crucial part of the story as it foreshadows something invisible to the naked eye.
The Distance
The distance is where most of the story takes place. It is quiet and solemn, being populated sparsely by husks of birds that once lived or stay lost in the vastness. Those who travel there never return, leading the place to be unknown and unpredictable.
THE DISTANCEThe distance has no discernible features, just vast amounts of dark sand. The only true locations in the distance is underneath the sand, with ever-changing structures of waterfalls and winding trees, where the waters whisper of secrets that they know from the depths of infinite darkness.
Friends
Oro considers the birds she finds in the distance to be "friends"
